These partnerships allow us to explore new materials, refine manufacturing techniques, and advance sustainable design and production. Together, we’re driving progress across the plastics and engineering sectors, combining real-world experience with forward-thinking research to deliver better outcomes for our customers and the environment.

Partnering with NERIC has played an important role in Heyside Group’s digital transformation adoption of digital technologies. Together, we’ve identified automation opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, and productivity across our manufacturing operations. Through NERIC’s wider innovation network – including Made Smarter and GMCA – we’ve secured funding, recruited a digital intern, and strengthened our internal capability. This work has since developed into a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with the University of Salford, helping embed long-term digital and innovation expertise within the business.

Our collaboration with the University of Salford began through GMCA Industrial Strategy Zone projects and has grown into centres around a three-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership focusing on robotics and automation funded by Innovate UK. The project focuses on developing an automated production line to improve operational efficiency and enhance key manufacturing processes, supporting our commitment to innovation and future-ready production.

By combining academic expertise with continued investment in modern manufacturing, compliance, and resource efficiency, we’re accelerating the decarbonisation of plastics recycling and supporting sustainable business growth.
