Our first stop on our mini awards run in September was the GM Chamber Excellence Awards, where we were finalists in the Medium Business of the Year category.
With the award show covering the entire Greater Manchester region, we were in the room with some major firms, and for a family-run business like ourselves, it’s a fantastic recognition of our growing reputation amongst industry peers.
It reflects the work we’ve put in in expanding our capabilities over the last 12 months and beyond, including a continued investment in machinery and automation which has increased how much high-quality plastic we’re able to divert from landfill as part of our production cycle.
It was also a great opportunity to chat to other businesses in the region, and see how we can learn from each other - something we’ve been keen to do across the last few months through our involvement in the Oldham Manufacturing Forum.

At the Oldham Business Awards, we went one step further, with a win! Our founder Melvyn Pryce received the Businessperson of the Year award, recognising his work in building Heyside up over the last 20 years.
As a proudly family-run business, we want to be seen as one of Oldham's best assets, employing skilled local people from the region, and putting the town on the map as one of the key hubs for advanced manufacturing in the UK.
The award celebrates Melvyn’s journey with Heyside from a single shredder to where we are today, with his son Matt now taking on the business as we increase our capacity and upskill our team for the next era of our journey.

Just because we’ve had recognition, doesn’t mean our work is anywhere near done. We’re continuing to look at how we can improve what we do, including by investing in robotics and AI.
We’ve recently brought in Fahad Saad to be our Robotics and Automation Lead, in an effort to develop and implement new technology across our factory, focusing on improving production processes, increasing efficiency, and developing new capabilities.
We've also installed a new substation to give us more power, in a cleaner manner than previously, and we're bringing in a new 12 station Presma in the coming weeks, with further machinery in early 2027. This will make sure we hit the growth plans we have, not just securing jobs but creating more jobs, and more opportunities.
Our goal is to be one of the pioneers in an industry that’s traditionally relied on manual processes, looking at how we can create better products for customers, while speeding up how fast we can get things out the door.
